I'm feeling generous today, so here is round 2 of stamps, continuing in today's theme of sporting events & psychedelia! I've been after these for a while - gorgeous set of postage stamps designed by the incredibly talented Lance Wyman for the 1968 Olympic Games.

Philately Fridays: Mexico, 1970

One of my all-time favorite stamps. Designed by the great Lance Wyman, this one commemorates the total solar eclipse of March, 1970, the greatest point of which was visible over Mexico.

Cocina Mexicana

Last November, I posted some images from a book called BOOZE - a book of drink recipes featuring some super groovy illustrations. Just last week, Pileup reader and frequent image contributor Jeremy Pettis hipped me to a similar-looking book of Mexican recipes called Cocina Mexicana. After seeing a few of the page images, I realized the book was indeed written and illustrated by the Booze crew! (author June Dutton, illustrators Ann & Bruce Butte) I tracked down a copy and am very excited to share these samples from Cocina Mexicana.

Philately Fridays: Mexico, 1978

I love the subtle shading, bright colors, and real heavy geometry in these two stamps from Mexico. Very clever illustrations depicting the fusion of technology and international relations.

Olympics pictograms: Mexico 1968

The fantastic pictograms, logo, and identity for the 1968 Olympic games, held in Mexico City, were designed by the great Lance Wyman. Throughout the entire identity system for the games, Wyman did a fantastic job of combining the bright colors of Mexican art and culture, ultra-contemporary '60s op-art style, and these sports logos which are simple and stylish enough to still stand out today.
