A Christmas Cookbook

From the same team who brought us Booze and Cocina Mexicana comes another brightly-colored cookbook. This one is obviously all about classic Christmas recipes and includes winter favorites like roast goose, turkey gravy, vichyssoise, and pfeffernüsse. Bruce Butte's groovy illustrations are about as late 1970s as you could ever hope for. So on point. Enjoy!

Versatile Vinegar

In 1979, The Vinegar Institute, which is evidently a real thing, released this brochure slash cookbook with a super sour illustrated cover.

Cocina Mexicana

Last November, I posted some images from a book called BOOZE - a book of drink recipes featuring some super groovy illustrations. Just last week, Pileup reader and frequent image contributor Jeremy Pettis hipped me to a similar-looking book of Mexican recipes called Cocina Mexicana. After seeing a few of the page images, I realized the book was indeed written and illustrated by the Booze crew! (author June Dutton, illustrators Ann & Bruce Butte) I tracked down a copy and am very excited to share these samples from Cocina Mexicana.

Eating Weekends.

This is a series of editorial illustrations from an article about travel and regional foods. The article, Eating Weekends, is from the January 1979 issue of Diversion Magazine, described as being "For Physicians at Leisure." My father, a physician, likes to keep magazine clippings if he finds the subject matter to be interesting (or perhaps leisurely) or if there are cool illustrations or photos in it. Throughout the course of this blog, there are going to be a huge number of pieces I've acquired due to his packrat tendencies.
