Philately Fridays: Romania, 1969

A postage stamp commemorating the centuries-old Romanian New Year dance known as Capra. In the dance, men known as Kukeri dress up wearing the skins of sacrified goats, beads, kerchiefs, tassels, ivy, and basil to scare off the evil spirits. The Kukeri thing is Bulgarian, has nothing to do with Romanian traditions.
