Milk delivery boxes of Japan

In the U.S., milk delivery went out in the Leave It To Beaver era, but in Japan, millions still receive milk through a traditional delivery service. Here's just a small handful of photos of milk delivery boxes outside Japanese houses from the collection of Goemon, who shares hundreds of other milk graphic-related images.

Philately Fridays: Germany, 1964

Beautifully composed and stylishly illustrated stamp commemorating the Judo portion of the 1964 Summer Olympic Games held in Tokyo, Japan. This was the first year that Judo was an official Olympic event. Competing on behalf of the USA was Ben Nighthorse Campbell, who would go on to become a State Representative and then Senator for the state of Colorado. See footage of Campbell taking on Thomas Chi Hong Ong from The Philippines below.

Gurafiku

I've been exploring Gurafiku, an online archive of Japanese graphic design. The site allows you to view work split up by decade and there are a lot of fantastic posters, book covers, and more collected here. Take a moment to look around. Here are a few of my favorites:

Ikko Tanaka, 1977

Yusaku Kamekura, 1968

Shigeo Fukuda, 1974

Kisho Kurokawa, 1970

1980

Philately Fridays: Two from Japan

Wow, OK sorry it's been so long since I posted here. I've been coming up on a bunch of new stamps lately, so expect more regular updates from here on out! Kicking things back into gear with two nice geometric designs from Japan, one an expressive representation of the chaos of Expo '70 and another for 1980's JCI World Congress.

At the zoo

Great little logo for the Asahiyama Zoo in Hokkaido Japan, designed by Susumu Endo around 1967. It's perfect for this time of year - Minneapolis just had a little blast of snow last night and I feel like a reindeer could show up at any moment.
